Collessie Cairn Terriers Collessie Cairn Terriers Mhorag, being my first cairn terrier, will always be very special as it is because of her entertaining and endearing ways that I decided I wanted to get more involved with the breed. I have subsequently acquired bitches from 2 other families, Balbridie Dawn Mist and Celtway Savannah Rose. I believe in careful, well planned line breeding and so have listed the "Co-efficients of Inbreeding " for both 5 generations and for the complete pedigrees. I hope with these three families I will be able to produce some really good quality cairns, whether they be show champions or someone's best mate. Shelagh, Xanthe, Zillah and Mhorag Xanthe and Buntie
"taking their ease after a big day outside" "we are working dogs really"
All my cairns have the benefit of rural life during the day with plenty of space in which to exercise as well as the comforts of our home at night. While they certainly enjoy the luxury of a cosy fire in winter or the airconditioning on a 40 degree day, they don't seem to notice the weather conditions when "exciting" things are happening outside. They all seem to love the water and will swim and play in it together with great pleasure, summer or winter.
Glenlemar Bonny Mhorag "Mhorag at 8 weeks, 2 years and nearly 8 years, showing her colour changes" Mhorag started life as a cream brindle, then going silver for a couple of years before darkening to a gunmetal grey/silver brindle with a dark mask. She is extremely outgoing, confident, very athletic and friendly with a great zest for life. Mhorag has produced progeny with good, weatherproof harsh coats and good temperaments, correct length of leg and her daughters have nice feminine heads and the dogs very masculine heads. Both her parents were imported from the UK, her sire from Uniquecottage and her dam from Lindcoly. I have retained daughters, grand daughters and now a great grand daughter who will be used in the stud. As Mhorag is herself an outcross, I have endeavoured to find dogs with pedigrees which line up as much as possible for her matings. She is now over 10 years old and as playful and cheeky as she has been all her life, she is a delight to live with.
Collessie Bonny Shelagh
Shelagh is a wheaten brindle who I have only shown once due to injury. She was Best Baby Puppy in Show at the 2004 Cairn Terrier Club of NSW Ch Show under breed specialist Mr Ross Ward (Vic). Shelagh was the last born in her litter of 6 and actually arrived at 12:15am on 29th February. She has an attractive head and expression, good length leg, level topline and a good harsh coat.
Collessie Rosa Xanthina
"Xanthe" a rich red with dark points and a very outgoing, lively personality, she is my "wild child". She won Best Baby Puppy in Show at the Cairn Terrier Club of NSW Ch Show in 2005 under Mrs Pamela Harding (ACT). Xanthe is an attractive bitch with a good head and expression, she is nicely balanced and athletic, correct length of neck and leg and a really good profuse, harsh weatherproof coat. Xanthe's first litter was born on 30th Jan 2008 by Craigend Wiradjuri (Ch & NZ Ch Koterana Matike x Ch Craigend Candlebark). This litter was extremely even and all of very high quality reds which has been very pleasing. Two puppies have been retained, Jane Seery very generously has taken Archiduc Josef to live in Albury to be shown, at his first All Breeds show weekend he won the double of Baby Puppy in Group on both days - well done Jane and Josef! ...and followed up with several more and a Baby in Show. Xanthe won Best Head at the 2008 CTCNSW Championship Show under Ms Carrie Paine from a strong class. Josef has done very well in the ring under some very well regarded judges from both Australia and the UK and attained his Championship title as a junior.
Collessie Inika Hahli
"Annie" is a well put together red bitch with a level topline, nice tail set and carriage, good balance and angulation, good harsh coat and is cheeky and playful. Beware anything that has not been put away as it disappears with great speed out the doggie door! Annie is not a big bitch but has enough neck and leg length. Annie won Puppy of Breed & Reserve Bitch Challenge from an entry of 7 bitches, at Mudgee Show under Miss E Davies, her first show since Baby Puppy. As you can see all of the eight great grand parents are UK born. Annie - 2nd in Open Bitch at CTCNSW (Mrs Dee Hyde) 2009.
Collessie Inika Jaller Jaller is the litter sister to Annie, she is a rich, dark red with slight brindling at this stage, with a lovely head and a profuse harsh coat. Jaller won Junior Bitch at her first ever show, the prestigious 61st CTCV Championship Show under breed specialist Ms Fiona Ward (Achnacone). Jaller and Annie turned one the day of the show.
Collessie Bonny Wanda Wanda and Willa are from Mhorag's last litter by a lovely young dog, Achnacone Signal Rock. Wanda is a cream bitch with a great coat, she has nice balance and angulation both front and rear and a good straight front. Wanda is scopier than her sister and is slower maturing, both being useful bitches for the future. Wanda whelped nice healthy litter by Collessie Wee Cock Sparra on 10th March, 2010. At CTCNSW Ch Show 2009 (Mrs Dee Hyde), Wanda placed 2nd in Aust Bred Bitch in quite a good field.
Collessie Wicked Willa
Wicked Willa at nearly 8 months Wicked Willa at 13 months Wicked Willa is very aptly named, she oozes personality and mischief. She is a red brindle with a great head and expression, she has good conformation and a harsh, weatherproof coat, she is more compact than her sister. They are both showing promise for the future. This mating has brought in similar bloodlines to both sides of Mhorag's pedigree and just seemed to click.
Collessie Tequila Sunrise "Tqui" is a cream bitch with plenty of spirit and personality, she has been very slow maturing but has blossomed going into Intermediate. She is from Balbridie Dawn Mist's first litter and is nicely line bred to Ch Uniquecottage Rifleman (Imp UK) and Balbridie Electra both being inflential cairns in Australia. I look forward to her contribution to Collessie in the future.
Ch Collessie Archiduc Josef
"Josef" is co-owned with Jane Seery from Albury - thanks Jane for showing him! He is the first of my cairns to be shown regularly. Right from the start Josef caught my eye and he has not disappointed as he has grown up, I hope he continues to mature well. He reminds me very much of his mother Xanthe. Josef is the grand son of now 8 times BISS, CH Craigend Candlebark. Josef has continued doing well with Best of Breeds, Puppy in Groups, at Junee Show winning Best in Group under Cairn Specialist Mrs Pamela Harding (NSW) and Puppy in Show under Dr G Cowie (NSW), then Puppy in Show under another breed specialist, Dr Peter Tallentire (WA) and only 9 months of age.......well done Jane and Josef. He won top cairn in NSW and 3rd nationally in the Dogzonline "Rising Star" competition which includes up to Juniors and at 11 months had 138 CC points. Josef won Junior dog in a big class at CTCV in 2009 under UK cairn specialist Mrs Ann Waugh (Tribannon) Josef attained his title in July with DCC and a Junior in Group the next day, bringing him up to 173 challenge points, having only been shown very sparingly since his birthday. The following week at the CTCNSW Ch Show (Mrs Dee Hyde ACT) he won RDCC and Junior in Show and a finalist for the Clearday Plate for Best Head. "1st J Costello & J Seery COLLESSIE ARCHIDUC JOSEF
Smashing young dog – smart, upstanding with plenty of scope with good length of leg, pleasing head, good coat texture. Sound with strong quarters. Reserve CC" (Dee Hyde)
He also won Best Gait in the Property Classes (Simon Mills). He will be back in the ring in the spring along with his young siblings. Success for Josef at Canberra & District Sporting Terrier Club - Oct 3rd, 2009, winning DCC and RUBOB (Ms Carrie Paine) followed by RUBIG (Mrs S Patterson) at Walbundrie Show Society on 5th Oct. Runner up Best Of Breed under Mrs CE Cartledge (UK A1 non-specialist) from an entry of 31 at Vic Women's KC, 2009
Buntie's second litter is by the veteran dog, Ch Craigend Westering Home, a quality dog with a lovely head who has been well rewarded at Specialty Shows. These puppies are all brindle. This litter was born in the middle of the Mungindi Show while I was trying to run the Yard Dog Championships - keeps life interesting!! I have had this litter planned since Buntie was quite young so am delighted I got it and particularly since her premature and sad passing. Toffee, owned by Lyn Barclay, Lochrin , has won Baby in Group at Bendigo Show and Carousel is owned by Karen Quinn, both in Victoria. Toffee was 2nd in Puppy Bitch under UK specialty judge, Mrs Ann Waugh (Tribannon) in May ,2009. Karen and Carousel won Novice Handler and Best New Exhibitor at the 2009 Specialty in Vic. Toffee was also 2nd in Junior Bitch under Mrs Dee Hyde at the CTCNSW Ch Show 2009.
Collessie Maggie Lauder
Annie's first litter is also by the veteran dog, Ch Craigend Westering Home who, like Mhorag, is by Ch Uniquecottage Bright Scamp (Imp UK). Maggie was placed 3rd in Minor Puppy Bitch and Sparra 4th in Minor Puppy Dog at the 2009 CTCV Championship Show under UK specialist Mrs Ann Waugh (Tribannon)
Collessie Wee Cock Sparra (b.19.09.2008)
Sparra is a moderate sized red dog with a wonderful carefree happy personality. He is the litter brother of Maggie Lauder. His first litter is from Collessie Bonny Wanda born 10th March, 2010.
Celtway Savannah Rose Savannah Rose and Scarlett OHara are from Ch Collessie Archiduc Josef's first litter bred by Jane Seery from Ch Achnacone Skyes Thelimit. Savannah is a cream brindle with a pretty feminine head with much to like about her. Will be interesting to watch her mature. In her first 2 shows, Savannah won Best Minor Puppy in Show at CTCNSW 2009 (Mrs Dee Hyde) and 3rd behind her sister, Scarlett Ohara, in Baby Puppy Bitch at CTCV at just 3 months from a big class (Mrs Ann Waugh UK).
Collessie Cressida, Mistress Quickly and Wild Edric The puppies had success at their first show, the Canberra & District Sporting Terrier Club, with Edric winning Baby Puppy Dog, Cressida 1st and Mistress Quickly 2nd in Baby Puppy Bitch and Cressida winning Baby of Breed from 5 entries (Ms Carrie Paine). Edric has won Baby in Group 3 times in his first 2 weeks of showing from some strong entries, Mistress Quickly is too rambunctious in the ring at present, her turn will come. Edric has returned to the ring and had a couple of nice wins, a 12 point BOB in Canberra under terrier specialist Kerry Lee (Vic) in April, 2010 and Best Puppy Dog at CTCV in May 2010 under breed specialist Dr Peter Tallantire (WA)
Collessie Litter Willa has had my first Josef litter, Duchess has been retained.
Collessie Litter Wanda has had a litter of 7 to Sparra, 3 girls and 4 boys.
Some Past Favourites Balbridie Dawn Mist (RUBISS) "Buntie" was named after her great, great grand mother, the matriarch of the Balbridie Cairns, Ch Hopeleigh Snugglepot, she is a grey brindle with good conformation, coat and an outgoing friendly personality. She became mine on the way to her first show thanks to the generousity of her breeder…..and later that morning she was placed second in a big Baby Puppy class under breed specialist Mrs Annabel Gunn (SA). Class 1A Baby Puppy Bitch (9 entries) CTCV Ch Show 2005 -Judge A Gunn……at not quite 4 months. “2nd BALBRIDIE DAWN MIST – Another little sound specimen showing great potential. Beautifully proportioned head and body with a lovely turn of stifle finishing strong hindquarters. A beautiful sound front assembly. Just lacked the maturity of the winner today.” Buntie has matured into a very sound, attractive bitch who has similarities to both her well known parents. Dillon has proved to be a very successful sire for Achnacone as well as for many other studs in Australia and Columbine is a beautiful red bitch at Balbridie who has consistently produced quality progeny. Just 6 weeks after surviving a near fatal snake bite, Buntie won RUBIS at the 61st CTCV CH Show on 6th May 2007 - 83 entries (12A) under breed specialist, Ms Fiona Ward (Achnacone). She won Intermediate Bitch from a class of 10 entries (1A) , then went on to Reserve Bitch Challenge, Intermediate in Show and RUBIS to her litter sister, Balbridie Fearn. Her other litter sister Silver Charm was 3rd in Int. Bitch and their older brother Tulliallan won Open Dog, not a bad record for siblings at such a prestigious show! Buntie's parents have won top honours for 2006/2007 CTCV Inc. Awards, Ch Balbridie Columbine has won the Kirriemuir Trophy for Best Dam , well ahead of the other contenders and Ch Pinetop Dillon (Imp UK) has won Leading Sire. Buntie's first litter is by Balbridie Storm Hunter who is by Ch Uniquecottage Rifleman (Imp UK) from Ch Balbridie Deliciae and so are line bred back to her dam and her second litter is by a very well known old dog, Ch Craigend Westering Home. Buntie was killed by a Mulga (King Brown) snake on 12.11.08 along with my puppy bitch , Wise Portia.
